The Biscayne Institutes of Health and Living is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as the Florida Board of Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, social workers and marriage and family therapists. Examples of courses provided in the past year include Cultural Competence and Diversity, a course that explores the geography, culture and political history of Eastern Asian countries and their critical role in the development of health services in those countries. Advocare, a course that provides an overview of the strengths and benefits of coordinated care for patients between hospital, home, and outpatient visits. Courses on Medical Errors and the International Classification of Functioning were also provided among others. Biscayne also co-sponsors continuing education courses with the University of Miami regarding issues important to research in the Hispanic community. |
